An interesting article indeed. And the first I've seen to address the two things
about the album that struck me first. One is the song Bone Bomb. It grabbed me
on first hearing and didn't let go. I've not seen the song mentioned in any
review and yet it seems the (arguably) most powerful on the album. The other
thing (Bone Bomb being the most striking example) is the album's commentary on
THIS world and THIS time. Most of Eno's songs seem to me to be a bit unworldly,
hanging in a different version of this world or some world of imagination. Or
they have a timeless quality addressing this world in a way that stylistically
may be contemporary, but in content could be speaking of the future or past or a
different present.
As the reviewer stated, this isn't a directly political album. But it does
address things that are politically charged in the world today.
I think most reviewers have been frightened to speak of this aspect of the
album. Probably because of the highly charged political atmosphere in the world
today. It's a pity. I certainly would like an interviewer to ask Eno about this
and hear his reaction.
