(too old to reply)

The All Saints website simply says "repacked". EnoWeb says "remastered
and repackaged". Anybody know if these re-releases are genuinely
remastered??

I've listened to Nerve Net and Shutov Assembly and they don't sound
different to the originals.

You do get a bonus video of 'Ali Click' with 'Nerve Net'

We have them for 11.95 at www.ambientmusic.co.uk (apologies for the advert!)

Dominic from All Saints wrote in an e-mail to me: "The albums are
re-mastered from the original sources and all the artwork has been
reworked."

Thanks Tom. This is really bad news. Yet more CD's to buy!!

I wonder if these All Saints releases are Simon Heyworth jobs? I've
got the new On Land, and I'm fairly blown away by the difference.
Still haven't got the sonics bedded into my mind yet, so I'm not sure
how much I prefer it to the familiarity of the mellower original CD
pressing, but there's no doubt it cuts through layers of opacity to
the original tapes. How much more can be had from Neroli remains to be
seen, but as I've played that CD in excess of 500 times (no joke) I am
*compelled* to check out the new transfer. Shutov Assembly is another
fave, and I'm lusting after MLITBOG.. if On Land is anything to go by,
that should be stunning! Another compulsory purchase.. *sigh*
The chances of Qu'ran being included on a UK release seem remote, but
I plan to bang out an email to the relevant people and express an
interest in this track being part of the package. I suggest others who
feel it would be a shame to omit the track, do the same. We might not
be able to influence the decision, but unless people speak up I fear
they will just roll ahead without it.

I presume the people to contact would be the licensing department at
Astralwerks in the US at ***@astralwerks.net

Any thoughts on that??

BTW, my CD of Neroli is from the first pressing, and has a slightly
different cover to later pressings. Do you know if there's any
significance to this?

Unfortunately, not true. The artwork is reworked, for sure.. but...

The "remastered" Shutov Assembly sounded no different to my ears, so I
extracted Lanzarote from the new and the original releases using EAC.
Carefully trimmed excess material (the actual start and end times were
marginally different) and compared the resulting two 92Mb files in
binary mode. They are *exactly* the same. There's definitely no
remastering in this recording, it's IDENTICAL to the original release.
It's fair to presume Neroli and Nerve Net to be the same. I have the
new Neroli, too, so I will check that next and report back.

I thought I smelled a rat when there were no remastering credits on
the liner notes :-(

I'm one very disappointed customer/christmas gift recipient. These are
two discs (assuming Neroli is also identical to my original copy)
which will be going back...
