Has anyone compared sound quality of the new ENO remasters with the
ENO Vocal Box material. Is there noticable improvement or difference?

Thanks

It´s funny you mention this..Since I read about the remasters I wondered
why we needed another remastered version of Eno´s vocal albums..On the
Eno Vocal Box it´s all there (except a track or two)..So it must be
considered a gift to the fans who don´t have the boxes,I guess..

Personally I´m happy with my old versions of Eno´s vocal albums..I like
their rather analog and soft EQ..I also like the box (remastered)
versions, but honestly it doesn´t really matter. And yes,I do have the new
remasters too..

Talking about gifts, when is the "5 cd Eno Anthology" released, consisting
of ONLY unreleased tracks and alternate versions from the period
75-85,where Eno created tons of tapes that just ended on his own shelf ?

So since you have everythinh, would you say there is any sonic
improvement with the new batch?

I don't have the Eno Vocal Box, or the re-issues, but I do have the Eno
Instrumental Box which like the Vocal box was remastered in SBM 20 bit, a Sony
process which being Sony who is usually reluctant to even license their process
stuff (unless it's for an outrageous sum), have moved on to SACD.

Anyway, Sony has moved on to SACD, and since they own Columbia, just about
everything sounds better, even without a official SACD decoder.

I was very impressed with what 20-bit SBM did for the Eno Instrumental stuff,
espcially when one goes back to the the original CD releases such as "Music For
Films." Remember, Brian has never been that obsessed with sonic purity on his
own stuff.

Do you know if all Brian's major releases are being remastered? I'm
gagging for MLITBOG and any of the ambients..

Brian's entire back catalogue (at least, the albums with rights held by
Virgin/EMI) is supposed to be released over the next coupla years. I think
MLITBOG is due for a re-release this year; when David Byrne was interviewed
earlier this year he vaguely concurred when a DJ said it might include
additional material.

It's probably subjective, but I'd say that the box sets were clearer than
the original dull CD versions, the "Original Masters" are both clearer and
richer. I hope they do The Plateaux of Mirror soon...

Parts of "Plateaux" were actually recorded at 7 1/2 ips, so there's only so
much sonic wizardry one can hope for. Plus, someone else might know, but I'm
not sure Brian and Harold ever recorded together for "Plateaux"--parts were
recorded out here (L.A.) at Cal Arts where Harold had been teaching at the
time, and there was a small studio. I think they may have assembled the whole
thing at Lanois' place in Toronto.

It's still a great album, though. For those who can't get enough of the
"Plateaux" sound, there's Budd's collab with John Foxx--a two CD set called
Translucence/Drift Music which I was able to pick up very affordably on Amazon
new and used (it came sealed). Obviously recorded a lot better.

Eno Fripp just released a new album. Does this mean he might do collabs with
former mates???
