I seem to remember having once seen early video works by Brian Eno. Was it a
dream or has anyone else seen them? I specifically remember a video that
showed a wooden fence, I think a white wooden fence, and not much else -
maybe moving clouds above. I can't find anything about such videos on the
web, and I'm really not sure now if I mixed something up in my memory.

On a related note, I just received my copy of the "Thursday Afternoon /
Mistaken Memories of Mediaeval Manhattan" DVD. Wonderful! (the only thing is
that the Rykodisc DVD was region 1 encoded and being in Europe, I had to
install a regionfree software in order to see it.) It is a great idea to put
both of them on DVD, and to offer them both in vertical and horizontal
formats. The awesome painting-like Manhattan video is really better suited
to run vertically, while Thursday Afternoon, with Eno's friend Christine
moving slo-mo in the bathtub, is equally good in both formats.

Possibly one of the other "ambient" videos released on Hendring:
Alongside the above two, there were:

Symbols From The Magic Drum - music by Eno, with film of Lapland.

Albert Falzon's "The Kumbha Mela - same as it ever was", with music by
Eno & Budd

The Lanzarote music festival, with Roger Eno, Budd, Michael Brook, and
Laraaji.

I'm sure that there was at least one more, with Roedelius on it - I've
got them somewhere, but packed away in boxes.

Brian imaginatively called this "White Fence". It was hoped that this could
be included on the DVD but there wasn't room .

ha ! so I didn't dream it. Thanks for the info Tom. Any more information
about White Fence, and what is planned for it? And do you know if Brian did
more similar videos? I seem to remember that White Fence was not the only
one.

btw how's your own music Tom? I'm the proud owner of your wonderful
mp3.com-CD 'Snowfall' and it still belongs to my all-time ambient
favourites.

Fence was not the only one.
I only have a small extract from an interview in which Brian says:

"the first piece that I did at The Kitchen ... was called 2 Fifth Avenue, it
was all pictures of the building across the road from where I lived. It
was a very geometrical white brick building, with very Mondrian type
windows, black framed windows, and what was beautiful about it was because
of the time of year I was doing it, sometimes curtains would fly out and
flap a little bit, so I had four screens of these, always taken at angles,
of these very graphic white brick and sharp edged windows, but with
occasionally a bright curtain blowing in the wind. ... then I did another
one called White Fence, which was the same kind of idea, it was a fence ...
somewhere in Little Italy."

I must say White Fence sounds jolly exciting but maybe its inclusion would
have pushed the DVD up to an 18 Certificate. ;-)

I don't have any information on whether they plan to release either of
these. "Opal Information" once stated there were plans to release a video of
Brian's Shrine Inauguration, so there must be quite a lot in the Opal
archives that *could* be released.

Why thank you! MP3.com never sent me any money before going under. I am
supposed to be involved in a music project but it's currently in a state of
suspension by the other members of the collaboration. One day, I hope...

And your music?

keep us informed will ya?

btw re: snowfall:
are you aware of Morton Feldman's piece "Three Voices"? The piece has been
sung by Joan LaBarbara and also by Beth Griffiths. The text contains the
lines "Who'd have thought, that snow falls". Utterly beautiful music, and
although it sounds very different from yours, there is a similarity in the
tenderness and lightness of the sounds.
And your music?
thanks for asking ... well most of my stuff is available from
burningshed.com ... did I ever send you something? if not, please send me an
offlist message to ***@michaelpeters.de with your address.
